When we view our blogging through the lens of our chakras, we can better understand our own creative process and ultimately how we express who we truly are through our writing.
Archetypes are patterns of behavior that show up in every aspect of our lives – from the way we look, feel, react, think, WHAT WE BLOG ABOUT, and our value systems. Archetypes provide us with a set of tools, skills and potentialities and also serve as a source of our personal power.
I believe one of the best ways to look and understand archetypes is through the chakra system.
These swirling wheels of energy correspond to massive nerve centers in our body. Each of the seven main chakras contains bundles of nerves and major organs as well as our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being.
So each chakra embodies an archetype – a pattern of behavior that you can apply to the type of blogger you are, or wish to be.
Two things before we dig in:
Root Chakra – The Guinea Pig
This type of blogger is interested in trial and error and sharing their iterative process with the world. Think of them as a crash test dummy. They are the ones taking the first leap and busy reporting back what they learned to the rest of us.
A great example of this is Pat Flynn from Smart Passive Income. His goal has always been to share the strategies that have helped him grow his online business. you can view his website here: http://www.smartpassiveincome.com/about/
The Sacral Chakra – The Beauty Hunter
This type of blogger is obsessed with the aesthetics and sensuality of their world. They hunt for beauty everywhere and when they find it they bring it to light and display it for the world to see and admire. They can often be found taking photos as they travel the world, showing off hidden gems at a flea market, or tasting coffee at a brand new, funky coffee shop. These bloggers also make exceptional curators and don’t always create the content, but find it and share it.
An example of a The Beauty Hunter archetype is Design Milk. It is a design blog featuring interior design ideas, architecture, modern furniture, home decor, art, style, and technology. View it here: http://design-milk.com/
The Solar Plexus Chakra – The Personal Brand
These bloggers have the goal of growing their brand or business’ reputation and influence online. The solar plexus chakra governs personal power and action, and these bloggers are very goal oriented. They know their purpose for blogging, understand the value they provide to their readers and get the results!
A great example is Chris Guillebeau. He is an author, and thought-leader in self-development arena. Guillebeau teaches how to live a life you love through the exploration of life, work and travel. You can see from his blog how authentic and clear he is on who he is and the value he delivers. Note how humble he is – don’t get fooled into thinking you must be extroverted or salesy to embody this archetype. Check Chris out here: http://chrisguillebeau.com/
The Heart Chakra – The Guide
These bloggers brings you in at a certain stage in their life and take you along with them on their journey. They are open, transparent and teach through example. You feel like you know them, and often when you read their posts, if feels more like reading a letter from a friend.
A beautiful example of this archetype is Kris Carr. Kris was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in 2003 and since then has been inspiring people to live their best and healthiest lives by sharing her story, ways of living and most prominently, her shining example. View her website here: http://kriscarr.com/all-posts/
The Throat Chakra – The Evangelist
These bloggers are all about studying information, presenting key viewpoints and promoting discussion around these key topics. These bloggers always have something to say…and you always know where they stand!
An awesome example is Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary V is an entrepreneur, author, public speaker, and has a BIG personality. Check him out here: https://www.garyvaynerchuk.com/
The Third Eye Chakra – The Life Improver
These types of bloggers are intent on helping you improve your life. They have tips, tricks, recipes, short cuts, techniques, articles, deals - anything and everything you could need to learn how to live an improved life.
One things to note about the Life Improver is often they aggregate this information, so they are master curators of life improvement material.
The Crown Chakra – The Sage
This blogger has acquired their ‘sage-like’ wisdom from years of practice in a specific field. Often The Sage blogger has experience each (or at least many) of the other blogger archetypes before fully embracing their sage status.
A brilliant example of this archetype is Seth Godin. He is renowned marketer and author and is a prolific, and I mean prolific blogger (one post per day for years!) I Highly recommend you check out his blog here: http://www.sethgodin.com
Isn’t it fascinating to view blogs from this higher perspective? There really is so much more than meets the eye. But what I’m really doing with this whole exercise is showing you that the only qualification you need is YOU.
Understanding your main blogging archetype can help you see how important and unique your message is. Embrace this role whole-heartedly.
