So I was on a plane yesterday traveling back to the Bay Area from Calgary (yay to being back in Cali!) and I was sitting across and one row behind a Certified Master Life Coach.
How do I know this? Well, she spent the entire 1.5 hour plane ride coaching the man in the seat next to her.
It was actually quite fascinating.
She spoke of habits and choice. It was her perspective that we have a "choice" around everything.
That's when the man next to her said,
"Well, I have some really bad habits I'd like to break and just can't seem to do it."
I leaned in a bit closer.
The Certified Master Life Coach explained,
"Habits are just conscious decisions we make about something that have become so ordinary for us they have become subconscious beliefs and routines."
I was picking up what she was putting down. It still felt like there were some gaps there, but I was a row and an aisle away aaaannnnddd it wasn't my coaching session. Plus the drink cart came.
This conversation lent itself to something I had already been thinking about since the beginning of December.
Whenever I need an injection of inspiration I always turn to my Instagram feed. I have curated my timeline so it shows people doing really cool shit (example, my good friend Sue goes on the most EPIC outside adventures. Follow to be inspired by her journey and Mother Nature).
I am also really aware when the comparison-syndrome bug bites when scrolling and consciously move towards gratitude for these people showing me that by them living a life they love, I can too!
And don't get me wrong. I freaking love my life. But I want to level up. It's time to think bigger!
Do you feel the same way too?
In the start-up world we talk a lot about "BHAG". That's the weird acronym for an even weirder statements: Big Hairy Audacious Goal.
I think the concept of BHAG can also apply to our lives outside of business. It's funny how business gets all the attention when it comes to leveling up, growing, setting goals and achievement. And in our day to day life, well, often success is measured by the completion of a binge-watched Gilmore Girls special. Or is that just me? ;)
My BHAG is going to be how I approach my 2017.
These are what I deem to be my next steps:
1. Come up with BHAG.
2. Try not to freak out. (Aka observe all objections that rise up within me)
3. Figure out the next steps. Stay tuned for more on this next week!
You in on this? If you think a Big Hairy Audacious Goal is going to help you live a kickass 2017 I invite YOU to come up with yours.
